Hello everyone!
At our site; we're experimenting with using treated greywater to irrigate young fruit and shade trees in a permaculture zone. While the system works well during moderate temperatures; we are noticing stress on the trees during extreme summer heat even with regular application. Some leaves turn yellow or drop early & growth slows despite sufficient water.
We suspect the problem may be related to salt accumulation; pH imbalance, or soap residue from household greywater, which becomes more concentrated in hot, dry conditions.
We're using mulch basins and have decent soil structure but it's unclear how the trees are reacting long-term. The issue doesn't appear with rainwater or stored well water, only the greywater fed zones. I checked https://greywateraction.org/greywater-choosing-plants-and-irrigating/ guide for reference and found it very helpful.
Has anyone successfully optimized greywater irrigation specifically for tree crops in arid / semi-arid environments like Sunseed? Would love advice on treatment tweaks, Golang Online Training dilution methods, or companion planting strategies that can help buffer the effects in peak summer.
Thank you !!
